Kryss' Workshop Topics

Belly Dance

ShimmyFest - Broken down by category, tension, relaxation, and placed shimmies, internal vibration, and skeletal initiation, plus variations of these, are covered in this workshop. Focus is on building stamina and fluidity as well as layering and traveling. This class is offered in 1 - 2 hour increments.

Danse de Duende/Flamenco Fusion - Flamenco goes beyond wrist circle and furious skirt movements and while this class will cover hands and skirts, the focus will be on arms, posture & attitude. Kryss's approach to this passionate fusion is to use elements of Flamenco combined with The signature Flamenco turn, vuelta que brada, paseo and marking steps and how these elements work within Flamenco will be explained for the participants to gain a greater understanding of how to fuse the two styles. Workshop can be offered in 1 - 3 hour increments. Classes can also focus on particular Flamenco palos - rhythms and feelings such as rhumba, tangos, bulerias and seguirillas. For the seguirillas, a large shawl is needed but a heavy veil will do.

 

 

Veil Meditation - Take your veilwork beyond structured placement and into an instinctive flow where the veil becomes and extension of the dancers movement rather than a frame to be danced within. A variety of exercises are explained and expiremented with during this workshop so that the participant has something to take home and work with to develop her relationship with her veil further. This class is offered in 1 - 3 hour increments and can also fall under the Dancemeditation category.

Belly Dancing from Your Squishy Bits - Focusing on our softer parts can make the quality of dance movements deeper and stronger while the body benefits from efficient movement and special attention to the lungs, heart, uterus and pelvic floor. Fluid Yoga warm up is followed by a series of exercises designed to put the dancer in touch with her "Squishy Bits" and then layering movements on top of shimmies and circles becomes effortless.

Dancemeditation

Being Dance! - No dance experience needed. Dancemeditation is a movement practice designed to take the participant on a journey within the body to initiate and strengthen a deeper level of body awareness, centeredness, and calm. Participants should wear comfortable clothes that inspire dancing and bring a yoga mat, blanket, journal, pen, and blindfold. Workshop is offered in 1.5-3 hour increments.

Dancemeditation for Couples - This class uses the foundation of the Dancemeditation practice to facilitate a new level of connection between couples. This is an opportunity to express yourself without words and really see your partner from a different perspective as well as develop some tools for communicating sensually. This workshop is offered in 1.5 - 3 hour increments.

Cost: Cost for workshops will depend on length of time, number of workshops being offered and travelling compensation. Kryss is open to staying with workshop sponsors and also has a wide network of friends across the country.
